Scene 1

Intro - Scene 1

"On the first day of spring floods, in the year 681, the second era, the Demon Lord bowed to Chaos.
Breaking the eternal rules of the universe."

Artur: It starts dramatically... and you know what I like best about this story? It's that constant tension, mystery and threat :) I am really into such climates. Thanks Ziemowit for your input :D

Ziemowit: We wanted something dramatic from the first screen, so we started with the disaster on the cosmic scale. I did not even think there would be a problem to find a proper scene for an artwork. Finally, I asked our artist to draw a 'kind of a demonic, strange meteor, you know...'. Next day, when I received a grinning rock and some explosions I sighted and said to myself I had to be more specific next time.

Scene 2

Intro - Scene 2

"At the same time a meteor fell in the Arazath Mountains, causing a series of massive earthquakes.
It was the last of the old days and the beginning of the War of the Immortals."

Scene 3

Intro - Scene 3

"Many Gods died in those days, slain by the Demon Lord's minions. The survivors united under the leadership of the Lady of Life.
Armies of light and darkness gathered at the fields of Lorath, ready for the final battle.
But battle never commenced; what happened in the Underworld before the Demon Lord's sudden disappearance is Lorath's greatest mystery."

Ziemowit: The last sentence was added very late in the production. We looked for a link to events to come, a kind of a harbinger. And a bit of mystery, too. Now I think it is a really long sentence and lots of people do not even read this:) A next lesson - be concise.

Scene 4

Intro - Scene 4

"Only a few know that the Demon Lord never sought world domination. It was later revealed that his motives were far more gruesome.
Throughout Lorath legend also recounts that the Demon Lord had been thwarted not by Gods, but by mortals.
Five humans, driven by hatred, pride, envy, greed and fear."

Ziemowit: A typical mythical trick. Only flawed ones can repair what was broken. This time, however, I have made our heroes true monsters. Nice set of good values and motivations, don't U think?

Scene 5

Intro - Scene 5

A proud Paladin of exceptional strength.

Ziemowiti: The Paladins of Lorath are everyone but pure and innocent monks. Hopefully they can fight and they do it well.

Scene 6

Intro - Scene 6

A Warrioress seeking revenge.

Piotr: Warrioress is my fiancée's favourite character. Emila proved a great 'outsource' tester providing us with some fresh look on the game we needed at some point. Her Warrioress is lvl 70 now and what I find intriguing is that she invested almost all points in early available skills (War Trance and Tear of Gaia). This isn't something you normally do, for the early skills tend to suck later in the game. Not in this case though, the character is doing just fine on Lord difficulty.

Scene 7

Intro - Scene 7

A possessed Warlock, haunted by his past.

Ziemowit: This is my favourite character. We thought of having him transform into a cloud of ravens, but finally only Grim Reaper found its way to the release version of The Roots. Anyway, the story of his past in service of Demon Lord, of his broken and divided soul, demonic nature and neverending fight with the 'dark side' overcoming his conscious mind gave us a nice kick of what skills he should have at his disposal.

Artur: Yeah...Warlock rules, always :) I like that guy a lot. So far I've completed the game three times with that character, but I know there are much better gamers than myself around :D Cheers to all Warlock-Maniacs!

Scene 8

Intro - Scene 8

A powerful Sorceress wielding dangerous magic.

Ziemowit: She was the most troublesome character when we tried to imagine her face. It was really important for the box - illustrations and artworks. After dozens of trials I was so tired that without any objections from anybody I opened one of "those" websites and picked up the first dame that drawn my attention. Nobody remembers her name now, but, well, at least our sorceress had a professional model.

Piotr: There is lots of sentiment that I have for the Sorc. She was the first one I've completed the game with. That was somewhere around Alpha stage, I think. Now, you need to imagine, that was not a 'typical' going thru the game. The software was really buggy then and balance could probably be found anywhere but in The Roots. So it took me about 35 hours, including bug report preparation. Tears, sweat and blood were the cost and thus this special sympathy I have for 'the Blonde'...

Scene 9

Intro - Scene 9

And a mysterious Thief; a master assassin with a bounty on his head.

Ziemowit: I know this is the most played character and the one who appears on the picture with nudity, at least to some extent. When I wanted our artist to paint a courtesan, he made her almost naked. We dressed her up, but some 'values' remained. It brings the picture some freshness.

Scene 10

Intro - Scene 10

This is their story.

Piotr: Well, the fun starts just then. The heroes have been introduced and are set for the quest. But there's more mystery in it, there is more to be unfolded. Ziemowit managed to draw the conflict neatly, in just a few sentences, but he will have much more to say later. This is everything but I trivial story. I cannot wait for next episodes of this section :)
